 Frequently Asked Questions

What's a PDF?
Technically a Portable Document Format it's a type of computer file, but for our purposes, it is a comic in that file format. Clickwheel PDFs have different strengths and weaknesses than our other formats. Unlike iPod Comics and Animatics, they cannot be viewed on iPods and most other conventional forms of handheld media. They can, however, be read on an iPhone and can be distributed via iTunes. They're also great for reading on computer monitors or for printing from a desktop printer. (So long as the PDF is 8.5" x 11" or less.)
PDFs can be a single image much like a jpg or gif, but PDF's wonderful flexibility is to handle multiple "pages" in one document that can be scrolled through in Adobe Acrobat and other preview programs that come standard on all computers these days. This simulates a printed book quite nicely and is therefore a comfortable way to read for many.
This flexibility allows you to syndicate your comic as a single downloadable image, or as a collection of strips, a complete issue, or full graphic novel via Clickwheel and the iTunes Store.
How do I create a single image PDF?
Simple. All you have to do is go to 'save as' in your image editing program and select PDF as the file type. PDFs can be any size, but be careful not to make the file size so big it takes forever to download or the print size too big to print on a standard desktop printer. It really is that easy. You're done and ready to upload.
How do I create a multi-page PDF?
If you have access to QuarkXpress or Adobe InDesign you can create your document in either by putting them together within and then selecting 'export' and then 'export as PDF.' Either one of these programs will then generate a multi-page PDF automatically.
Illustrator also has the ability to generate multi-page PDFS. Click here for more details.
You can also create multi-page PDFs in Adobe Acrobat Pro. If you have it, you probably know how to do that.
